HCA Clinical Education Centre is delighted to be able to offer from October 2007:

CPPD In Mentorship Preparation for Healthcare Professionals

 

Validated with Thames Valley University

20 Credits at Level 5 (diploma) or Level 6 (Degree)

 

 

Summary

This one module course, over a period of 12 weeks is for registered nurses, midwives and Allied Healthcare Professionals, who are required to facilitate, support, supervise and / or assess “learners” in their particular healthcare setting.

 

The module incorporates the new Nursing and Midwifery (NMC) 2006 Standards for Learning and Assessment in Healthcare, well as the standards set out in the publication, Preparations for Mentors and Teachers: a new framework of guidance for Nurses, Midwives, Health Visitors and Allied Health Professionals, published by the former ENB and Department of Health in 2001

 

Award

The course content is the same for all candidates, however candidates may select the standard at which they submit their assignments at level 5 (diploma) or level 6 (Degree).

 

Learning Format

The course uses a ‘blended learning’ format, taught over 6 allocated study days throughout a 12 week period.  Three days are classroom based, and three days are allocated to e-learning using the TVU Blackboard website, however candidates will have access tutor support throughout the period of the course.

 

Assignment Format

The course is based around 3 key themes, and candidates will be required to deliver a 1000 word assignment on each theme:

 

1.      Planning explores the context of learning in healthcare today, the roles and responsibilities of the Mentor, and the factors influencing learning, identification of learning needs and opportunities and the planning of learning experiences.

 

2.      Facilitation and Supervision explores how learning is facilitated in the healthcare setting, how to develop effective working relationships and give constructive support and feedback.

 

3.      Assesment and Evaluation explores the principles and rules of assessment, the assessment process, summative/formative assessment, fairness in assessment, legal accountability, types of evidence, making judgments, decision making and evaluating learning.
